Dairy, food processing, auto among sectors with maximum potential for solar thermal: Study

New Delhi: Dairy, food processing & beverages, automotive components, textiles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals are some of the sectors with maximum potential for use of industrial heat generated through solar thermal projects, a study has found.
The Solar Payback study was commissioned as part of a project started in 2017 to explore ways to increase the use of solar heat for industrial purposes (SHIP). It identifies India as a potential market for solar process heat for industrial applications.
“The study reveals much of the process heating in industries use only low to medium temperatures of below 250 Degree Celsius. For every 3 million meter square of installed area the quantum of diesel saved annually will be 20 million litres on continuous basis and abate 55,000 tons of CO2 annually,” Solar Thermal Federation of India said in a statement.
The study also identifies suitable technologies for solar process heat including flat plate collectors, concentrating dishes or vacuum tube collectors with compound parabolic concentrators.
